La Mesa Ecopark, ganap nang gumagamit ng ‘Renewable Energy’; Una at pinakamalaking Eco-Park na gumawa Nito

Makasaysayang hakbang para sa kalikasan ang ginawa ng Manila Water Foundation (MWF) matapos ganap nang lumipat sa 100% renewable energy ang kanilang pinamamahalatang La Mesa Ecopark (LME).

Ang Manila Water Foundation (MWF), ang opisyal na corporate social responsibility arm ng Manila Water Company na nagpapatakbo at nangangasiwa sa 33-ektaryang La Mesa Ecopark (LME) sa Lungsod Quezon, ay nagtalâ ng isang mahalagang milestone sa patuloy nitong pangako sa sustainability at pagpapagaan ng epekto ng pagbabago ng klima sa pamamagitan ng paglipat sa renewable energy.

Ang 33-ektaryang parke, na itinuturing na isa sa huling ‘luntiang tanggulan’ ng Kalakhang Maynila, ay naging ganap na nagsasarili at palakaibigan sa kapaligiran pagdating sa kanyang suplay ng kuryente.

Ang inisyatibong ito ay naging posible sa pamamagitan ng Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), sa pakikipagtulungan ng Meralco.

Naging posible ang nasabing pagbabago sa pamamagitan ng Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), kasama ang Meralco bilang partner. Sa ilalim ng RAP, pinahintulutan ang LME na direktang kumuha ng kuryente mula sa mga supplier ng renewable energy, tulad ng mula sa araw at hangin.

Ayon kay MWF Executive Director Reginald Andal, “Ang pagsulong na ito ay nagpapakita ng aming matatag na pangako sa sustainability, pagbabago, responsable ng paggamit ng enerhiya, at katatagan ng aming operasyon.”

Binigyang-diin ni Andal na ang LME ang kauna-unahang at pinakamalaking ecological park sa bansa na nagpatupad ng RAP, na nagsisilbing huwaran sa iba pang mga establisimyento.

Kinilala naman ng ERC ang La Mesa Ecopark bilang isang “RAP Champion” dahil sa mga pioneering initiative nito. Ayon kay ERC Director for Market Operations Service Sharon Montaner, ang Manila Water ang kauna-unahang kumpanya sa Pilipinas na sumailalim sa RAP noong Pebrero 2025.

“At simula nang magsimula ito, mula sa 3 aggregated retail groups, ito ay lumago nang 70% taun-taon hanggang sa 37 aggregated groups nitong Agosto. So ganoon po kabilis. At across industries, very successful ang RAP,” pahayag ni Montaner.

Bukod sa pagiging isang sikat na pasyalan, ang La Mesa Ecopark ay mahalagang bahagi ng La Mesa Watershed na siyang pinagmumulan ng tubig-inumin para sa mahigit 90 porsiyento ng mga customer ng Manila Water sa East Zone ng Metro Manila.

Ang paglipat nito sa malinis na enerhiya ay hindi lamang isang tagumpay para sa parke kundi isang malinaw na patunay ng epektibong pagtutulungan upang mapalakas ang adhikain ng LME bilang isang environmental hub na nagtataas ng kamalayan sa pangangalaga ng watershed, pagprotekta ng kagubatan, at pangangalaga ng biodiversity.#
