NEW YEAR FIRE VICTIMS RECEIVE AID FROM QC HALL

The Quezon City government set aside Php 2.73 million for the grant of financial assistance to 2,002 families left homeless by a New Year’s Day fire this year at Kaingin Bukid Street in Barangay Apolonio Samson.

The support extended by the city government entitled each house owner with a financial assistance of P2,000 while renter/sharers received P1,000 each. Of the 2,002 families affected by the January 1 fire, 734 were house owners while 1,268 were renters/sharers.

Congressman Christopher “Kit” Belmonte and Secretary to the Mayor Tadeo Palma led the distribution of financial assistance to the fire victims on Wednesday at the QC Hall grounds.

The QC Social Services Development Department (SSDD), headed by Teresa Mariano, oversees the preparation of master list of beneficiaries for the financial assistance.

To date, there is a continuing effort from the QC government and office of Congressman   Belmonte to encourage the affected families to take advantage of the relocation program offered to them by the government.

Based on the latest report submitted by the city’s Housing and Community Development and Resettlement Department (formerly urban poor affairs office), at least 271 families have already availed of the relocation program offered by the National Housing Authority (NHA) in Barangay Cacarong in Pandi,Bulacan.

There is also an on-going relocation program for informal settler families occupying the three-meter easement in Barangay Apolonio Samson.  Overseeing the relocation program is the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission.(Maureen Quiñones, PAISO)
