PREPAID POWER SERVICE FOR BISTEKVILLE 2

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will soon make available its prepaid power service to the beneficiaries of the Quezon City government’s Bistekville 2 housing project near Zabarte Road in Barangay Kaligayahan.

If plans do not miscarry, Quezon City will be the first local government unit in Metro Manila to pilot-test the program shortly after the approval of Meralco’s application to expand its “Kuryente Load” service by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Prior to the expansion program, Meralco’s prepaid power service has already been made available to parts of Manila and Rizal.

A briefing on Meralco’s kuryente load service was presented to QC Hall officials, led by Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and secretary to the mayor Tadeo Palma, during Wednesday’s   regular executive committee meeting at City Hall, by representatives of Meralco’s business center in Novaliches.

Vice Mayor Belmonte is also studying the possibility of expanding the program further to QC schools and public markets.

According to Meralco representatives, a physical survey of the area is needed first to determine whether it can also accommodate other LGU accounts to the program.

Bistekville 2, the second of the first two socialized in-city housing projects launched by Mayor Herbert Bautista, has about 894 housing units for informal settler families, including those affected by demolition.

Part of the city’s holistic plan for Bistekville program beneficiaries include provision for water and electrical connections, livelihood projects and scholarship grants for the children of the city’s housing beneficiaries. (Precy)
