QC OKAYS BURIAL BENEFITS FOR CENTENARIANS

Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista has approved an ordinance providing burial benefits to QC centenarian residents by increasing the city’s financial support to them to fifty thousand pesos (Php 50,000).

The new ordinance, authored by Councilor Voltaire Godofredo Liban III, also gives the title “Centenarian Citizen” to every QC resident upon reaching the age of 100.

The new measure amends Ordinance SP-1986 S-2009 which provided that QC centenarians shall be given Christmas and birthday gifts amounting to two thousand pesos (Php 2,000) in addition to a Php 10,000 cash incentive.

But the old ordinance did not provide for a burial assistance.

The city council passed the new ordinance on third and final reading onDecember 15 last year as a Christmas gift to poor families who have to care for their sick centenarian elders.  Sponsors of the new measure said that considering the high cost of funeral, burial or cremation services nowadays, the city government should also give additional assistance to support the centenarians’ families for their expenses for such services.

Last month, Mayor Bautista signed the new ordinance into law as a Valentines gift to the families caring for their elders who qualify for the new benefit.
