QC REPORTS EARLY INCREASE IN BUSINESS TAX COLLECTION

Quezon City posted a 7.75 percent increase in the city’s collection of business taxes before the first quarter deadline for payments, further bolstering QC’s image as one of the most business-friendly cities in the country today.

Based on the latest collection report submitted to Mayor Herbert Bautista, QC has already collected P3.26 billion in business taxes, which is P234 million more than what was collected by the city during the same period last year, which amounted to P3.02 billion.

City administrator Aldrin C. Cuna attributed the increase to the stricter process being implemented by the Bautista administration in the city’s tax collection system. “The city government is very thankful to our taxpayers for bearing with us,” Cuna said.

‘For the past five years, QC only managed to post increases that are below five percent. What we have achieved today is very significant for us to be able to finance the various requirements for governance and growth of the city,” said Cuña.

To date, Cuña said 49,000 business tax bills have already been paid.

The figure, Cuña said, represents nearly 80% of the total tax bills that were issued by the city government to the more than 60,000 registered business establishments operating in Quezon City .

On orders of Mayor Bautista, the city government has already streamlined the process of doing business in the city by cutting down by at least three procedural steps the processing time to facilitate business registration and renewals in the city.

“This innovation forms part of a continuing effort to increase QC’s competitiveness ranking in terms of ease of doing business,” Cuña said.

Based on the same collection report submitted by the treasury, QC has already managed to collect P4.1 3 billion in gross revenues, which is 2.2 percent more than what was  collected by the city during the same period last year.

Aside from business taxes, QC also posted considerable increases in the collection of other regulatory tax and miscellaneous fees.
