QC IS PILOT AREA FOR E-TRIKE SERVICE

Quezon City has been chosen to pilot test a full scale E-tricycle service operation using the latest mobility-cloud connecting system technology developed by an information and communications technology vehicles venture company based in Tokyo , Japan .

Mayor Herbert Bautista personally drove one of the E-trikes during a test run at the QC Hall grounds shortly after signing a memorandum of agreement with project partner, Global Mobility Service, Inc., for the implementation of the e-tricycle project in QC.

GMS was represented by its president Tokushi Nakashima, during the agreement signing.

Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte was also present during the occasion.

Since the e-trikes are equipped with the mobility-cloud connecting system, it will be easier to assess the road worthiness of the vehicle since the system features integrated monitoring, remote control and an anti-theft system.

If user didn’t deposit during a certain period, based on the contract between GMS, GMS may deactivate the unit remotely.

“We are aiming at encouraging the shift from conventional to electric vehicles as mode of mass transportation within the coming years.  A smooth and swift transition from gas-tricycle to E-trikes is envisioned for a quiet and cleaner Quezon City ,” project proponents said.

At least five e-trikes will be pilot tested by GMS in Barangay Central TODA from February to April to determine the technical and economic viability of said units.

The GMS-developed e-tricycle can accommodate three passengers including driver.

It takes about a 1 ½ hours to re-charge the e-trikes developed by GMS, which can register an endurance range of 30 kilometers or 3 hours of continuous operations.

Meanwhile, Mayor Bautista has ordered the city’s department of public order and safety, headed by Elmo San Diego, through its tricycle regulatory unit, to ascertain the road worthiness of the e-trikes.

According to San Diego , it is in the interest of the city government to replace 40% or roughly 9,885 conventional 2-stroke engine tricycles with franchise with electric tricycles since 2-stroke tricycles emit harmful pollutants.

To date, QC has about 24,713 legitimate tricycles in operation.

In the Philippines , tricycles are still the main mode of transport for short trips in cities and municipalities
