QC, DTI TO LAUNCH “DISKWENTO CARAVAN”

Some 80 to 100 manufacturing industries will join the Quezon City government and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in their “Diskwento Caravan” program to minimize QC families” expenses for school children  in line with the “Handog sa Bayan: Balik-eskwela” project of the city.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista directed all barangay officials to encourage their constituents to actively participate in this city government’s thrust of providing affordable school supplies and basic commodities, most especially during the opening of classes.

Bautista is confident that the partnership between the city government and the DTI in the “Diskwento Caravan” project will strengthen the poverty alleviation program of QC and will help parents avail themselves of the necessary school materials at a much lower cost compared to other stores offering the same product.

City Administrator Victor Endriga said that the “Diskwento Caravan,” which will be held on June 7 and 8 at the Quezon City Hall compound, is part of the Bautista administration’s efforts to provide the QC residents with direct access to the manufacturing industry as it intensifies its program for more school supplies which are affordable and free from the cost-adding interferences.

According to Endriga, school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, crayons, papers, coupon bonds, erasers, bags, and other school materials will be offered during the two-day caravan at reasonable prices, including the basic commodities for daily consumption.

Endriga is positive that with the inevitable day-to-day increase in prices, the “Diskwento Caravan” will one way or another help budgeting mothers save a bit of their family earnings during the first week of the new school year.

The city government is expecting the parents/guardians of the more than 400,000 incoming students who will avail themselves of the discounted school supplies, including basic necessities being offered by the city government and the DTI through the “Diskwento Caravan” program. -30- Rico/ Precy/ Maureen Quinones, PAISO
