New hotspot for future OFWs

Filipinos may have almost congested countries such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Hongkong, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Kuwait, and Italy as many still vie these places abroad as an answer to their poverty.

These countries are known for accommodating Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) may it be as a construction worker, a domestic helper, an engineer, a seaman, a medical worker or as an entertainer.

But competition rises and the demand is continuously growing on different parts of the world. With that, an addition to the list of options for future aspirants trying their fate and luck overseas is the Land of the Czars, Russia.

Located in the upper part of Asia, Russia is led by Vladimir Putin, regarded as a strongmen just like our President. While Putin pledged support for Duterte’s drive against drugs, Duterte, in fact, is a fan of the former and he even called him as his ‘favorite hero’.

Early next year, the two prominent leaders will again cross their path as Duterte will visit the socialist state to discuss labor relations.

The Russian republic was said to be in strong demand for construction and household service workers despite of some 4, 000 Filipinos who are already working in various areas.

That is why Silvestre H. Bello III, secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), vie the country as the next work destinations for our adept human resources.

“I already sent a memo to the President requesting him to include the possible deployment of skilled and professional workers to Russia,” Bello added.

One reason for this outsourcing to another country is the subtle decline on the demand for workers in the Middle East as oil price is dramatically dropping.

In this lieu, Russia is decided by DOLE as the newest alternative as they quest for skilled workers for their high paying jobs.  (Ace Palaganas)
