KMU calls for continuation of corruption hearings, inclusion of Arroyo

Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) called for continuation of public hearings on the AFP corruption and the inclusion of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the inquiry, accusing GMA as the Commander-in-Chief of the ‘pabaon’ system.

“The death of former AFP Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes provides more reason to continue the probe in the military corruption. His death may have buried answers to many questions, but it can also signal significant developments for the case,” said Roger Soluta, KMU secretary general.

“The bigger fish that is behind Garcia is surely GMA. The pabaon is a bribe for former military generals to ensure their loyalty to GMA in case her long-standing corruption cases will be exposed.  Reyes is GMA’s loyal and favorite general as proved by his numerous cabinet positions under GMA’s administration,” Soluta said.

Reyes became secretary of the departments of defense, interior and local government, national anti-kidnapping task force, environment and natural resources and, finally, energy.

“GMA’s telephone call to Reyes before his death inquiring his plans regarding the corruption probe has many things to say about her involvement in the case. This is a good opportunity to investigate on GMA, since Aquino’s Truth Commission proved useless to prosecute her on issues of plunder and violation of human rights, among others,” Soluta said
