ACTIVE COP, MOTHER BUSTED BY PDEA IN CAGAYAN

An active member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and his mother were arrested by combined operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) during a buy-bust operation in Solana, Cagayan on June 10, 2015.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr. identified the suspects as Police Officer 3 (PO3) Felicito Escobar y Narag, 36 years old, married, a member of Station 11, Manila Police District and a resident of Tondo, Manila; and his mother, Merlinda Escobar y Narag, 60, housekeeper, of Cattaran, Solana, Cagayan.

At around 7:00 in the evening, combined operatives of PDEA Regional Office 2 (PDEA RO2) under the direct supervision of Director Juvenal B. Azurin and Solana Police Station conducted a buy-bust operation in Cattaran, Solana, Cagayan that resulted in the arrest of
the Escobars after they sold one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet of suspected shabu to a PDEA agent who acted as poseur-buyer.

Confiscated from the Escobars were 13 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu weighing approximately five grams, one white Mitsubishi Adventure bearing plate number UOY 315, two cellular phones, one caliber 9mm pistol with magazine, 10 pieces of ammunition for 9mm and the buy-bust money used during the operation.

Seized illegal drugs were brought to the PDEA RO2 laboratory for forensic examination.

The Escobars will be charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) in relation to Section 26 (Conspiracy to Sell Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of RA 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. A separate case for violation of RA10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) will be filed in court against PO3 Escobar.(Mr. Glenn J.
