Villgro Philippines and SEARCA Launch SAFE Accelerator to Boost Climate-Resilient Agriculture in Southeast Asia

Villgro Philippines, a gender-smart incubator supporting impact-driven enterprises, has joined forces with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) to launch the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Enhancement (SAFE) Accelerator. This virtual accelerator program is designed to empower high-potential enterprises developing regenerative and climate-resilient solutions to address food security and sustainable agriculture challenges in Southeast Asia.

SEARCA’s Emerging Innovation for Growth Department met with Villgro Philippines, led by CEO Priya Thachadi, to discuss their upcoming collaboration on the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Enhancement (SAFE) Accelerator. This initiative is designed to support agripreneurs across Southeast Asia by providing tailored diagnostics, specialized mentoring, master classes, investment readiness assistance, and strategic networking opportunities.

Agriculture remains a vital livelihood for millions across the region but faces increasing threats from climate change, extreme weather, unsustainable farming practices, and food waste. The SAFE Accelerator seeks to nurture market-driven solutions that enhance biodiversity, support farming communities, and strengthen food security.

Dr. Glenn Gregorio, SEARCA Center Director

“SEARCA’s expertise in climate-smart agriculture and agritech innovation makes the SAFE Accelerator a crucial initiative for promoting sustainable development in the region,” said Dr. Glenn Gregorio, SEARCA Center Director.

He further noted that the program will support four enterprises in Lao PDR, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam that integrate regenerative, nature-based solutions into their business models.

“Urgent and transformative change is needed to ensure food security. Regenerative agriculture is key to restoring ecosystems and building sustainable food systems,” said Priya Thachadi, Co-Founder and CEO of Villgro Philippines. “The SAFE Accelerator will provide enterprises with the coaching, tools, and networks they need to scale climate-friendly agribusiness solutions that benefit both people and the planet.”

This four-month virtual accelerator program will offer customized capacity building, expert mentorship, hands-on workshops, gender-smart training, and self-paced investment readiness training. The program will culminate in an Impact Showcase, where selected enterprises will have the opportunity to connect with potential investors and partners. Additionally, eligible enterprises may access funding opportunities through Villgro Philippines’ investor network.

“The SAFE Accelerator is a critical step in empowering enterprises driving climate-smart agriculture. By helping them scale, we can catalyze innovations that will reshape agriculture in Southeast Asia—promoting both ecological restoration and long-term food security,” said Atty. Eric Reynoso, SEARCA Program Head for Emerging Innovation for Growth.

Applications will open soon for screening and joint evaluation by Villgro PH and SEARCA. Enterprises and partner organizations in Lao PDR, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam interested in participating can contact the team at climate@villgrophilippines.org.#
