About APPCU
Launched in 2021, the Award for Promoting Philippines-China Understanding (APPCU) is a joint initiative by the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of the Philippines. The award recognizes and pays tribute to Filipinos who have made significant contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the Filipino and Chinese peoples and between the two nations.

The annual award commemorates the “Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day” and marks the establishment of formal diplomatic ties between the Republic of the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China on June 9, 1975. APPCU aims to encourage more individuals to actively support and promote Philippines-China relations.

Award Categories and Selection Process
APPCU honors remarkable individuals in three categories:

Hall of Fame: Acknowledges individuals with high prestige and significant contributions over time, whose work has had a far-reaching impact on communities and society.
Outstanding Contributions: Recognizes individuals of lesser prominence but with notable contributions in promoting Philippines-China bilateral relations, friendship, cooperation, and understanding.
Major Contributions: Celebrates individuals whose efforts have impacted specific groups or communities at the grassroots level.
All nominees will undergo a three-round selection process: the preliminary (elimination) round, the second round of judging, and the third and final round, each involving three judges.

Awards Ceremony and Recognition
Winners of the 2025 APPCU will receive a trophy or plaque of recognition, a certificate, and monetary prizes. The award ceremony is scheduled for June 3, 2025.

Since its inception, APPCU has symbolized the spirit of friendship and understanding between the Philippines and China, encouraging continuous efforts to enhance people-to-people exchanges and bilateral relations.
