Manila Water: Nag-upgrade sa East Ave STP na may Biological Nutrient Removal System

Kasalukuyang ina-upgrade ng Manila Water ang Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) system nito sa East Avenue Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) sa Quezon City para mas matiyak ang kalusugan ng mga daluyan ng tubig.

Aayusin ng teknolohiyang ito ang paglabas ng mga nakakapinsalang sustansya tulad ng ammonia, nitrates, at phosphates sa kapaligiran. Ang mga sistema ng BNR ay mahalaga sa pagtiyak na ang mga discharge ng wastewater na halaman ay hindi makakasama sa buhay dagat, makakabawas ng oxygen, at magdudulot ng pamumulaklak ng algal sa mga daluyan ng tubig.

Ang P676-million BNR Retrofit Project sa East Ave STP ay isang pagpapahusay ng umiiral na proseso ng Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS) ng planta upang i-convert ito sa proseso ng Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE), isang mas advanced na paraan ng paggamot na nagpapahusay sa pag-alis ng ammonia, nitrates, at phosphates mula sa dumi sa alkantarilya.

Nakatakdang makumpleto sa ikaapat na quarter ng 2024, ang proyekto ng BNR ay may kasamang ilang pangunahing pagbabago at bahagi tulad ng mga pagbabago sa istruktura sa mga pangunahing settlement tank, aeration tank, at final settlement tank. Nangangailangan din ito ng pagtatayo ng bagong gusali sa ibabaw ng mga aeration tank, chemical storage tank, flocculation tank, tertiary filtration system, polymer system, generator set, at fuel tank. Ang mga pagbabago ay isinagawa din sa mga kasalukuyang gusali upang mapaunlakan ang mga bagong belt press unit at na-update na instrumentation control panel.

Saklaw ng proyekto ang mga lugar sa loob ng Barangay Amihan at Quirino 3-B, na may network na umaabot mula Palosapis STP hanggang East Avenue STP sa pamamagitan ng Anonas Lift Station. Ang network ay sumasaklaw sa 263 linear meters, na binabagtas ang Palosapis at Narra Streets.

Sa proyektong ito, pinalalakas ng East Zone water concessionaire ang pangako nito sa pagpapanatili ng kapaligiran at pagsunod sa Mga Alituntunin sa Kalidad ng Tubig at Pangkalahatang Effluent Standards ng Department of Natural Resources (DENR).

“Para sa amin sa Manila Water, ang mga proyekto tulad ng bagong BNR system sa East Avenue Sewage Plant ay higit pa sa isang kinakailangan na dapat tuparin—ito ay isang pangako na isama ang environmental sustainability sa aming mga operasyon para mas mahusay na mapaglingkuran ang aming mga customer,” sabi ni Manila Water Communication Affairs Group Director Jeric Sevilla.

Binibigyang-diin ng proyekto ng Manila Water na BNR ang dedikasyon ng kumpanya sa pagtataguyod ng kalusugan ng publiko at pangangalaga sa kapaligiran sa konsesyon ng East Zone.#
