Manila Water ramps up new water and sewer connections in first half of 2024

In its bid to expand its water and wastewater services to the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal, Manila Water has successfully installed 14,125 new water connections and 4,172 new sewer accounts in the first half of 2024.

The first six months of this year saw an upswing in new domestic connections, which clocked in at 13,684. Industrial and commercial connections also climbed, with 442 new installations also in just the first half of this year.

As of June 2024, Manila Water has a total of 1,182,753 water service connections in the East Zone, benefiting over 7.7 million customers.

The East Zone concessionaire has consistently passed the stringent Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water of the Department of Health to ensure public health. According to the tests conducted, samples collected from the designated regulatory sampling points were 100% compliant with total coliform and generally compliant with the physical and chemical standards for water.

In June alone, Manila Water conducted a total of 8,742 water samplings at reservoirs, pumping stations, distribution network, and customer taps compared to the required 7,804.

On the other hand, the company also experienced an uptick in new sewer connections in the first half of this year, with 4,172. This brings the company’s total sewer service accounts to 297,768.

“As we are committed to expanding our reach to provide 24/7 potable water to our growing customer base, we are also investing heavily in our wastewater service. Having sewer lines, as well as availing our desludging services, will ensure the proper treatment of wastewater, thus protecting our waterways,” Manila Water’s Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director Jeric Sevilla said.

Manila Water’s big push to promote sewer connection to its customers is deeply rooted in its environmental and sustainability goals, particularly in supporting the Philippine Clean Water Act by ensuring wastewater undergoes a meticulous process of treatment before being released to waterways.#
