Water charges decrease for Manila Water customers beginning April 1

Manila Water customers will see a slight decrease in their water bill in the second quarter of 2020 as the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Board of Trustees approved the rate change due to Foreign Differential Currency Adjustment (FCDA) effective April 1.

The second quarter FCDA is 1.69% of the basic tariff, 0.74% lower than previous reference of 2.43% for the last quarter of 2019. The FCDA for Q1 of 2020 was suspended by the MWSS-Regulatory Office (RO). This adjustment translates to almost Php5.00 decrease in the monthly bill of residential customers consuming an average of thirty (30) cubic meters per month, or Php6.00 decrease for semi-business customers consuming the same. Regular customers consuming ten (10) cubic meters or less per month will have a reduction of Php1 in their monthly bills.

The FCDA is a tariff mechanism formulated to account for foreign exchange losses or gains arising from the payment by Manila Water of concession loans and foreign-currency denominated borrowings of MWSS, as well as loans of the Company for service expansion and improvement of its services. The tariff adjustment does not affect nor improve the profitability of the company as it has no impact on its projected net income. #(MWC Corporate Communications)
