MANILA — Civic organization Junior Chamber International Manileña (JCI Manileña) is advancing a suite of proposed digital platforms aimed at strengthening mental health care, disability support, and emergency response in the City of Manila, positioning technology as a central pillar of its 2026 social development agenda.

The initiatives were formally introduced following the organization’s induction ceremony held last month at the Manila Polo Club, where JCI Manileña unveiled its “Laban Manileña” framework and installed its new leadership headed by President AJ Dequito and Executive Vice President Gemalyn Belliza.
In a follow-up meeting on March 23, JCI Manileña officials presented the proposed platforms to Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, exploring the integration of the digital tools into the city government’s existing social service and disaster-response systems.
Digital tools for key social needs
At the core of the proposal is a mental health mobile application designed to provide accessible information, self-help resources, and direct links to support networks. JCI Manileña said the platform would complement its mental health advocacy campaigns—particularly during Suicide Prevention Month—by extending assistance beyond seminars and physical events into continuous, everyday access.
Another proposed platform focuses on individuals with cerebral palsy, offering families and caregivers centralized resources such as therapy guidance, daily care strategies, and connections to peer support communities. The group said the initiative aims to address persistent information gaps faced by persons with disabilities and their households, particularly in underserved communities.
A third application under discussion is an emergency response platform envisioned to improve coordination during disasters such as fires, floods, and typhoons. The system would allow real-time reporting and faster communication between residents and first responders, a critical need in a densely populated urban center like Manila.
Public-private collaboration
“It’s one thing to talk about helping the community. It’s another to give them practical solutions they can actually use,” Dequito said, underscoring the organization’s focus on actionable, technology-driven interventions.
City officials welcomed the discussions, with both sides recognizing the potential of digital platforms to improve access, shorten response times, and scale social services across Manila’s districts.
Part of a broader 2026 agenda
The digital initiatives form part of JCI Manileña’s broader “Laban Manileña” framework, which also includes programs on women’s rights, LGBTQ+ inclusion, cancer advocacy, and youth empowerment. The organization marked its 46th year by emphasizing innovation, partnerships, and measurable impact.
By aligning its proposed applications with local government systems, JCI Manileña aims to institutionalize technology as a long-term tool for governance and community service—positioning digital innovation as a key driver of inclusive development in Manila.#
