Manila Water completes power supply transfer at Luzon Treatment Plant

Manila Water has successfully completed its facility upgrade activity at its treatment plant located at Luzon Ave., Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City. The three-night activity involved the transfer of power from generator-sets to inline Meralco power.

Affected customers were advised of possible water service interruption from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following day, for three consecutive nights, as the activity entailed shutting down of the facility to allow for the three-step transfer to Meralco power. Actual customer experience, however, indicate minimal to no disruption of water service during the hours of activity as supply was momentarily transferred to a reliability line from the Balara treatment plants.

“We needed to undertake this activity the soonest possible time as this will increase the efficiency and reliability of the Luzon Treatment Plant, which serves over 20,000 households in Quezon City,” Manila Water OIC-Group Director for Corporate Operations Arnold Jether A. Mortera shared. “We also decided to undertake the activity in three phases to avoid prolonged water service interruption for the affected customers,” Mortera added.

Currently, more than 99% of Manila Water customers already enjoy 24/7 water supply at 7 pounds per square inch (psi) pressure or reaching only the ground floor. This, despite the still-limited supply at NWRB has maintained its allocation for domestic use for Metro Manila at 36 cubic meters per second (CMS) from the normal 46 CMS. #(MWC Corporate Communications)
