Gabriela Women’s party Representative Luzviminda Ilagan today said she feels wary and uneasy over the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, who is currently facing graft and plunder charges along with Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla, Jr., in connection with the multi-million pork barrel scam.
“Certainly, this development has an implication on other pork barrel cases that have been filed as well as those that have yet to be filed,” said Ilagan.
The Gabriela solon also expressed apprehension that political back trading may be in the works as the Aquino administration attempts to gather more support for the Liberal Party’s candidate Mar Roxas. “Mar Roxas continues to fare miserably in surveys and elections are fast approaching. Senator Enrile on the other hand, continues to wield much political influence. It is possible that political back trading may be in the works.”
Ilagan said there is a need for continued vigilance so that the campaign against corruption will move forward at a faster pace. “Justice delayed is justice denied.”
