PCAB license applications increase in first quarter

The Department of Trade and Industry Region III (DTI-3) reported an increase in the number of applications for contractors licensing and registration with the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP) through the DTI-3’s CIAP Window. Better known by one of its implementing boards – the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB), the CIAP through PCAB, regulates the licensing and registration of contractors.

DTI Director Judith P. Angeles said that for the first quarter of 2015, DTI-3 has served a total of two hundred seventy nine (279) inquiries about PCAB licensing and registration, renewal and upgrading. From this, ninety (90) applications for PCAB licenses were processed by the CIAP Window of DTI-3. In comparison, during the first quarter of 2014fifty two (52) applications/renewal of PCAB license or registration were processed here. DTI-3 has dedicated a receiving and processing window for local contractors who want to avail of its services in the region.

Pampanga had the most number of PCAB license applications with sixty seven (67) license applications, Tarlac had nine (9), Nueva Ecija had seven (7), Zambales had four (4) and Bulacan had two (2). Thirty-nine (39) applications have already been approved and given their licenses, as of the first quarter of 2015. Last year, DTI-3 received 303 applications and 280 were approved. The 2014 figures showed that the province of Pampanga had the most number of PCAB applications processed with 215 approved PCAB licenses.

“One of the goals of DTI-3 is to support businesses by providing them better access in the processing of PCAB licensing services right here in the regional office,” she said.  DTI-3 has had a dedicated window for the processing of contractors application since November 2013 as the region has one of the most number of contractors in the country. The normal processing time is from 10 working days to 30 working days. The CIAP Window provides contractors with easier access to licensing and registration services so that they do not have to travel and wait in the PCAB offices in Makati for the processing and approval of their applications.
