QC EXPECTS LESS STREET CRIMES AFTER CCTVs ARE INSTALLED

The Quezon City government is expecting a decline in crime rates when the installation of closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) is completed in major and secondary roads in the city’s 142 barangays.

Tomasito Cruz, chief of city planning and development office (CPDO) informed Mayor Herbert M. Bautitsa that there are 4,000 proposed sites for CCTV installations.

Cruz said that the proposed CCTV sites will be presented to technical working group during a meeting of the QC Peace and Order Council (QCPOC) at Camp Karingal for proper evaluation and approval.

Mayor Bautista had ordered the installation of CCTVs in the city’s 142 barangays and also in business establishments to minimize crime incidence, especially carnapping and kidnapping cases.

The mayor said that the CCTVs will also be used by the city for disaster preparedness purposes, thus requiring business establishments particularly those situated along riverbanks and creeks to immediately install CCTV.

“CCTV will not only be used as security purpose against lawlessness but also as a safety measure against disasters that might come,” the mayor said.

Earlier, the city government, through the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), had required business establishment to install CCTVs in their premises to be able to renew their business permit.

QC government starting next year will strictly implement the no-CCTV no business permit policy. Only those business establishments that comply with CCTV will be given business permit for 2012. Maureen Quiñones, PAISO, QC
