Every barangay in Quezon City should have its own emergency medical response team to attend to cases of immediate risk to life and health.
In a proposed ordinance, Councilor Dorothy “Doray” Delarmente said that Quezon City has 142 barangays and the largest population in Metro Manila. It is five times bigger than Manila and second to Davao City as the country’s largest city.
Delarmente, a medical doctor said that having a large land area with an estimated 2.86 million people as of 2009, there is a need for an emergency medical service in every barangay that will promptly and properly respond to emergency situations brought by natural or man-made calamities and help the city government at the grass-root level.
Under the proposal, a local Emergency Medical Response Team (EMRT) will be established in every barangay in the city to systematize pre-hospital care. There will be a comprehensive and integrated emergency medical response team training of at least ten EMRT volunteer members in every barangay to be conducted by government -recognized emergency medical service under the close supervision of a medical doctor.
Delarmente said that this newly organized Barangay Emergency Medical Response Team will be tapped to support the existing QC Rescue Team to make the QC Emergency Response Network centralized and more effective.
She explained that these medical teams in the barangays will be the ones responding to emergency situations and will give first aid to patients or victims before taking them to the nearest medical center. Divine/ Maureen Quiñones, PAISO
