SPEED LIMIT SA LAHAT NG KALSADA, IMINUNGKAHI SA QC COUNCIL

Mga kalsada sa Quezon City, dapat lagyan ng kanya-kanyang speed limits para sa lahat ng sasakyan.

Sa isang panukalang resolusyon, iminungkahi ni Konsehal Eufemio C. Lagumbay kay Mayor Herbert Bautista na bumuo ng task force na siyang magsasagawa ng pag-aaral sa ipapataw na speed limits sa lahat ng kalsada sa Quezon City.

Sinabi ni Lagumbay na  dala na rin sa dami at patuloy na pagtaas ng bilang ng mga sasakyan, halos lahat ng daanan, mula national o main roads hanggang side streets ay dinadaanan na ng mga ito.

Ang paggamit aniya sa mga nasabing side streets tuwing rush hours at trapik ay madalas na ginagawa ng mga drivers na nakadaragdag sa panganib para sa mga residente ng Quezon City.

Kadalasan, mabilis ang takbo ng mga sasakyan sa mga maliliit na kalsada lalo na kapag wala  gaanong trapik sa mga daanang ito, ayon kay Lagumbay.

Iminungkahi niya na ang mga malalaking kalsada o major roads tulad ng E. Rodriguez, Quezon Avenue, East, Timog Avenue, West/North Avenue, Quirino Hi-way, Kalayaan, Aurora Boulevard, Katipunan, Visayas, Mindanao, Roosevelt, University Avenue at Congressional Avenue aay dapat na lagyan ng speed limit na 60 kph.

Sinabi rin niya na ang mga maliliit na kalsada o side streets na ginagamit na alternatibong daan ay dapat na lagyan din ng mas mababang speed limits.

Sinabi ng konsehal na ang kaligtasan at proteksyon ng mga residente ng lungsod ang pangunahing pinahahalagahan ng lokal na pamahalaan kung kaya importante na magtulung-tulong ang mga ahensiya para masigurong naipapaabot ang serbisyo publiko sa mamamayan.

Ang panukalang task force ang siyang magsasagawa ng pag-aaral sa ipapatupad na speed limits sa lahat ng kalsada sa loob ng hurisdiksyon ng siyudad.

Matatandaan na nagpatupad ang Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ng speed limit na 60 kph sa mga dumadaang sasakyan sa Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City dahil sa naganap na ilang aksidente roon.

Isa sa mga naging biktima ng aksidente roon ay si veteran journalist Lourdes ‘Chit’ Estella Simbulan na namatay nitong Mayo matapos bumangga sa sinasakyan niyang taxi ang isang pampasaherong bus malapit sa UP Technohub, Diliman, Quezon City.

Ang 12 kilometrong kalsada na may 18 lanes ay pinakamalapad na kalsada sa Pilipinas, at tinalo pa nito sa luwag o lapad ang Edsa. -30- Divine/ Maureen Quinoñes, PAISO
