QC STARTS DISTRIBUTING FUEL SUBSIDIES

Acting Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led city officials in distributing fuel subsidies to QC tricycle operators covered by the government’s public transport assistance program “Pantawid Pasada” in ceremonies held Wednesday at the QC Hall grounds.

The national government, through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), has set aside P3.7 million to implement the program, which will benefit almost 25,000 tricycle operators in the city.

QC needs at least 22 days to complete the distribution of the fuel subsidies amounting to P150 per tricycle operator to subsidize a portion of the recipients’ average fuel consumption.

Distribution of fuel subsidies for qualified beneficiaries in Districts I, II-A, III and IV will be conducted at the QC Hall main building while the city designated the Novaliches District Center as venue for distribution for program beneficiaries of the program in District II-B.

An average of 1,000 applications for fuel subsidies will be processed daily by the QC government.

QC tricycle regulatory unit head Robert dela Cruz will be coordinating closely with the local DILG office, headed by City Director Maria Lourdes L. Agustin, for the mechanics and schedule of the distribution of the fuel subsidy.

Earlier, Mayor Herbert Bautista underscored the vital role the program will play in determining which tricycle units are illegally operating in the city. -30- Precy/ Ramir/ Maureen Quinones, PAISO
