MORE REQUIREMENTS MULLED FOR QC MOTORCYCLE DRIVERS, RIDERS

Not more than two persons are to be allowed to ride on a motorcycle and they should wear a non-tinted full face shield crash helmets when travelling in Quezon City .

In a proposed ordinance filed by third district Councilor Jaime Borres, all motorcycle drivers and riders in Quezon City shall be required to wear standard quality crash helmets.

Borres said that statistic have shown that the incidence of motorcycle accidents have gone up in the past six years due to the fact that most of the riders did not wear proper helmets.

He strongly believed that with the use of standard quality crash helmets, both the driver and rider will be much protected than those who do not use crash helmets.

Under the proposal, a reflectorized number sticker, 7×4 inches in size and with the plate number of the motorcycle, will be placed at the rear of driver’s and rider’s crash helmets.

Borres said that these requirements can help in deterring crimes involving those riding in tandem and using heavily tinted crash helmets.

Any person who will violate these provisions shall suffer the penalty of having his motorcycle unit impounded and his driver’s license confiscated and the fine for noncompliance is P3,000. -30- Divine/ Maureen Quinones, PAISO
