QC CELEBRATES WOMEN’S MONTH

In support of the rights of women and to acknowledge the important role they play in nation-building, the Quezon City government has lined up programs and activities for the celebration of Women’s Month.

Mayor Herbert Bautista said QC is proud of being a leading local government unit in the yearly celebration of Women’s Month.

Bautista said that city government deeply appreciates the women’s contributions in the social, cultural, political and economic progress of Quezon City.

For her part, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, as a leading advocate of gender equality in QC, said that she is happy the city government has been vigorously encouraging the active participation of women in city-building.

The Vice Mayor is optimistic that the city governments’ move in identifying women’s role and addressing their present problems and needs will somehow encourage them to be more productive.

Dealing with gender sensitive issues, according to Belmonte, is another concern that the city government is looking into in order to address the increasing reports of gender-related violence.

Bautista and Belmonte vowed to strengthen the city government’s efforts in upholding and protecting women’s right and promised to support activities for women empowerment.

The City’s series of activities in celebrating Women’s Month include programs like rendering of free legal assistance from Federacion Internacional de Abogadas (FIDA), exhibits participated in by different offices and agencies within the city,  jobs fair, free medical services, cooking and cheering competitions, blood donations, tree planting, livelihood programs, and workshops on health and women’s rights  in the city’s  barangays. -30- Rico/Maureen Quinones, PAISO
