DOST pushes for Central Tech Hub to boost innovation and public access to research

Manila, Philippines — In a move to strengthen technology adoption and innovation in the country, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is intensifying efforts to establish a centralized tech hub aimed at serving as a resource center for investors, innovators, and the general public.

He mentioned that DOST is currently developing “Juana Know”, an AI Chatbot.

DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr. said that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to organize and promote technologies—both emerging and even older ones—that may now find new relevance in solving current problems.

“That will be the central hub of what is available for investors to look into, or even those that are interested to adopt this recipe for public food,” Solidum stated. “Sometimes, technologies that were not useful before can be used now.”

Upon assuming office, one of Secretary Solidum’s first directives was the development of a centralized tech portal, starting with https://techub.dost.gov.ph/, a platform designed to feature commercially viable or adoptable technologies. However, not all technologies can be listed due to intellectual property limitations or their designation as public goods.

To address this, the DOST is also developing a support system for provincial innovation hubs. Through this, local staff will be able to cross-check if similar research, technologies, or projects have already been conducted elsewhere in the Philippines—particularly within the University of Science and Technology System (USTS).

“Kung may pupunta sa innovation hub, titingnan agad ng staff kung meron nang katulad na teknolohiya, proyekto o research—para hindi pa ulit-ulit at para mapabilis ang innovation process,” the secretary explained.

This initiative underscores the DOST’s commitment to democratizing access to innovation, enhancing coordination across regions, and maximizing the use of both new and existing research for national development.#
