Both President Marcos and Vice President Duterte experienced declines in their satisfaction and trust rating during the month of January 2025 – Tangere Survey

Manila, Philippines — A recent survey conducted by Tangere has revealed that both of Vice President Sara Duterte’s satisfaction (45.5% to 40.6%) and trust rating (53.4% to 47.0%) suffered a significant decrease for the month of January 2025. The Vice President continues to leverage on strong support from Mindanao, where trust and satisfaction are the highest. A considerable upward trend in both her dissatisfaction rating were observed – from 36.8% to 39.0%, and distrust rating, from 27.0% to 29.0%, were also observed. Respondents belonging to both lower middle income and low-income classes were the primary drivers of the increase in her dissatisfaction and distrust ratings.

Satisfaction and Trust for the President
For the period of January 2025, President Marcos’ Satisfaction and Trust rating showed a marked decline from 47.9% to 46.2% and from 60.1% to 58.5% respectively. Satisfaction and Trust for the President were driven by respondents from Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, and respondents aged 18 to 35 years old. Increase in the President’s Distrust and Dissatisfaction were driven by respondents from Davao Region and Northern Mindanao Region, and for respondents aged 51 years old and above.

Satisfaction and Trust for the Speaker of the House
The satisfaction (47.9% to 49.0%) and trust (58.2% to 59.0%) ratings for House Speaker Martin Romualdez have shown a notable increase for the period of January 2025. The increase in satisfaction and trust are driven by respondents from Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, and Eastern Visayas. Similar to President Marcos, there is a higher level of distrust and dissatisfaction among respondents from Davao Region and Northern Mindanao, and for respondents aged 51 years old and above. The Speaker’s trust and satisfaction ratings have risen due to factors like successful legislation in Congress, the recent QuanCom hearings, increased public awareness, and government programs related to Ayuda.

Satisfaction and Trust for the Senate President
Satisfaction and Trust Rating for Senator Chiz Escudero saw a notable decline for the period of December 18, 2024 to January 16, 2025. Dissatisfaction and distrust for the Senate President also saw a notable increase. The decline can be attributed to the results of a survey conducted during the same period wherein 81% of respondents highlighted education as one of the most important issue that must be addressed by top government officials in the country. Despite the decline, the Senate President continued to be the highest rated top government official in the country.

Satisfaction and Trust for the Chief Justice
Increase in the awareness rate of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo’s led to increase in both his satisfaction and trust ratings. Distrust and dissatisfaction for the Chief Justice is lowest amongst the top government officials in the country.

The survey on the Trust and Satisfaction Ratings of Top Government Officials, conducted last January 13-16, 2025, was administered via a mobile-based respondent application with a sample size of 2,000 participants (+/- 2.20% Margin of Error at a 95% Confidence Level) using a Stratified Random Sampling method (Quota Based Sampling). The proportion was spread throughout the Philippines with 12 percent from NCR, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
