Filipinas Cacao Heritage Reserve binisita ng DA Chief

Personal na sinaksihan ni Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr. at Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines Ilan Fluss ang pinakamahusay na agricultural practices ng Filipinas Cacao Heritage Reserve nitong Marso 5.

Ang Filipinas Cacao Heritage Reserve ay isang 13-ektaryang bukirin ng cacao sa Calamba, Laguna na pag-aari ni Jacqueline Sy Go, na nakipagsosyo sa Embahada ng Israel sa Pilipinas para sa teknikal na tulong.

Sa humigit-kumulang limang ektarya ng produktibong lugar, ang Filipinas Cacao Heritage Reserve ay gumagamit ng integrated pest management, drip irrigation, weather monitoring, grafting, composting, at mga modernong teknolohiya sa ilalim ng mentorship ng isang team ng Israeli experts sa cacao production.

Ang pagtutulungan ay nagresulta din sa matagumpay na rehabilitasyon at muling pagkabuhay ng isang 90 taong gulang na Criollo cacao sa Calamba, na ngayon ay nagsisilbing pinagmumulan ng planting material ng sakahan.

Kasunod ng farm visit, tiniyak ni Kalihim Tiu Laurel, Jr. na nakatutok ang Departamento sa pagpapasigla ng industriya ng cacao sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng High value Crops Development program (HVCDP) at iba pang operating units. #
