Boracay Water allocates P240-M for 2024 service improvement projects

Boracay Water, a subsidiary of Manila Water Philippine Ventures and a concessionaire of Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), has allocated P240-M this year for capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects for the improvement of water and wastewater services in its service area in Boracay Island.

These CAPEX projects are expected to address critical infrastructure needed for service improvement and in compliance with the mandates of the regulatory agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Health (DOH).

For water supply, projects include the rehabilitation of Manocmanoc Reservoir and Bolabog Pumping Station, and the continuous replacement of water pipes within the business unit’s water system, among other initiatives.

On wastewater management and environmental sustainability, Boracay Water will invest P50-M for the continuation of the Balabag Sewage Treatment Plant upgrade to add the removal of biological nutrients in wastewater treatment. The business unit is also set to spend P15-M for the implementation of the Phase 2 and 3 of Project Monsoon, Boracay Water’s free sewer connection program. For 2024, the business unit aims to connect 912 accounts to the available sewer network within 100 meters in compliance with the Sanitation Code of the Philippines. Three (3) lift stations in Sinagpa, Diniwid and Dreamland will also be constructed, with a total cost of P16-M.

Boracay Water’s substantial investment reflects a proactive approach to contribute to the island’s long-term environmental sustainability, especially on the non-stop influx of foreign and local tourists. Based on the monitoring of the Malay Municipal Tourism Office, more than 2.1-M tourists visited Boracay Island in 2023.

For its 2021-2025 Service Improvement Plan, Boracay Water has allotted P1.1-B to intensify water and wastewater service improvement in Boracay Island and ensure compliance to its service obligations.#
