Siquijor farmers, fisherfolk receive cash and food subsidy

“Daghan kaayong salamat DA-BFAR sa hinabang,” said fishermen  Eric Tayco of Larena and Alexander Aguhar of Enrique Villanueva in the Province of Siquijor.

(Thank you very much DA-BFAR for the assistance).

Tayco and Aguhar were just two of the 206 fisherfolk beneficiaries of  Siquijor Province under the  Department of Agriculture -Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Cash and Food Subsidy for Marginal Farmers and Fishers (CFSMFF) Program, who expressed their gratitude to the DA especially to Secretary William Dar for the subsidy they received.

CFSMFF is funded under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) to revitalize the country’s economy and to lessen the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among the marginal fishers and farmers.

Tayco said that the assistance given by the government helped him a lot in coping  the bad impact of pandemic in their livelihood.

“Daku kaayo ang tabang sa ayuda sa among kalisod karong panahona,” Tayco said.

(The assistance really helped us a lot during the tough times.)

Aguhar also said that he will always be grateful for the programs implemented by the government.

The beneficiaries received a voucher in the amount of P5,000 each divided into P3,000 for cash and P2,000 for food items covering P1,000 worth of rice, P600 worth of dressed chicken and P400 eggs.

The P3,000 cash subsidy was claimed  through the DA’s accredited payout provider and the P2,000 worth of food items was claimed at the recognized food suppliers.

BFAR7’s Provincial Fishery Officer Warren S. Inao of Siquijor said that the assistance given was a big help to the marginal fishers in the province.

“Our fishers were also affected and struggling in keeping their livelihood, not only due to COVID but also of the bad weather,” Inao said.

Paul Bonocan, Sangguniang Bayan Chairman of Agriculture in Larena, Siquijor appreciated the move of DA and BFAR in addressing the needs of the farmers and fishers in the province.

Distribution of subsidy to eligible corn farmers in the province has also been scheduled soon. # # # (DA-RFO VII, RAFIS)
