Manila Water announced 100% compliance with all government wastewater standards across its 28 sewage treatment plants in November 2025, consistently exceeding the 95% regulatory target. This achievement reinforces the utility’s commitment to environmental protection and responsible wastewater management for the communities it serves.

The company’s full compliance covers key indicators mandated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Laguna Lake Development Authority, including biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, oil and grease, surfactants, and fecal coliform. All treated effluent meets Class C standards, suitable for aquatic life propagation, recreation, and agricultural irrigation.
Bolstering these efforts is the recent inauguration of the Hinulugang Taktak Sewage Treatment Plant in Antipolo City. The new facility significantly expands capacity, capable of treating up to 16 million liters of wastewater daily. It is a cornerstone project supporting the rehabilitation of the historic Hinulugang Taktak National Park and the Upper Marikina River Basin.
“Manila Water is expanding sustainable wastewater services across the East Zone by adding treatment capacity, extending networks, and maintaining strict compliance with effluent standards to protect waterways and advance climate resilience,” stated Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director.
As part of its long-term investment in sanitation, Manila Water reported a total of 361,177 sewer network connections as of October 2025. The company continues to pursue projects aimed at reducing pollution and ensuring cleaner waterways for future generations, building on its established record of regulatory excellence.#
