In a move to directly link micro and small cooperatives to the public procurement system, the government procured 5,000 pieces of locally made walis tambo from the Alayon Multipurpose Cooperative (MPC) in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental. The procurement was recently executed on Wednesday, December 10, under Project Silhig, a joint initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its Supply Chain and Logistics Group (SCLG), the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), and the Procurement Service–Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM).

With access to a stable institutional market, Alayon MPC is now positioned to expand production, improve operational capacity, and provide more reliable income for its members. This milestone also strengthens the local soft-broom industry and creates livelihood opportunities within the community, in line with the government’s thrust for inclusive and community-based procurement.

Project Silhig operationalizes the Memorandum of Agreement signed in August 2025 among the partner agencies and reflects strong inter-agency collaboration. It underscores the government’s commitment to growing rural enterprises, supporting Filipino craftsmanship, and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth nationwide. #
