A high-level business mission from Spain’s renowned Galician Naval Cluster (ACLUNAGA) has concluded strategic meetings in Manila, exploring significant opportunities for joint ventures in shipbuilding, maritime services, and industrial modernization. The visit was facilitated by the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Madrid (PTIC-Madrid).

The delegation, representing an association of more than 130 maritime and shipbuilding companies, included executives from five firms seeking partnerships with Philippine government agencies, local shipyards, and private-sector enterprises. During the meetings, both sides discussed concrete areas for cooperation, including potential vessel procurement for Philippine clients, modernization of local shipyard facilities, technical consulting, and comprehensive knowledge and technology transfer.
Company representatives identified strong complementarities between Galicia’s advanced expertise in naval construction, maritime engineering, and industrial systems and the Philippines’ growing maritime industry and skilled workforce. They underscored the country’s significant shipbuilding potential and expressed a firm commitment to advancing talks with Filipino counterparts to define specific, actionable projects.
The successful engagement is a direct result of the PTIC-Madrid’s commercial diplomacy efforts, which strategically link Spanish industrial capabilities with Philippine economic development priorities. The mission aimed to move beyond dialogue toward tangible joint manufacturing and investment prospects.
ACLUNAGA is a leading Spanish cluster from the Galicia region, a global hub for naval and maritime innovation. The Philippine shipbuilding sector, a major exporter of vessels, has been identified by the government as a priority industry for upgrading and technological infusion to capture higher-value market segments.#
