In a speech on the eve of the National Convention, Engr. Alberto R. Herrera Jr., National President of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE), called for renewed dedication to mentorship, innovation, and ethical leadership. Addressing fellow engineers during the 8th UPEP Annual National Convention festivities, he officially congratulated the incoming 2026 IIEE Board of Directors and underscored the profession’s critical role in national progress.

President Herrera framed the event not merely as a gathering, but as a “testament to the excellence, the dedication, and the enduring legacy of our profession.” Directly addressing the new board, he defined leadership as “a call to serve, to inspire, and to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” urging them to “lead with vision, humility, and courage” in shaping the future of Philippine electrical engineering.

He highlighted the core values of IIEE: unity, innovation, and service. Herrera stated that these shared principles strengthen the United Professional Electrical Engineers (UPEP), enabling the community to overcome challenges. “Tonight, we celebrate not your accomplishment, but the community we have built together,” he told the assembly, praising their commitment to excellence and mentorship for the next generation.

The speech was delivered during an evening event following the opening of the IIEE Expo earlier the same day. Herrera acknowledged the long schedule, emphasizing his and the organization’s commitment to supporting all activities. The occasion also served as a grand reunion for professional electrical engineers and featured the upcoming induction of the 2026 leadership.

Engr. Herrera is a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering graduate from the Mapua Institute of Technology (1988) and has served as General Manager of the Fuji-Haya Audit, Inspection and Maintenance Group since 2015. He concluded his address with patriotic well-wishes, saying, “Mabuhay ang mga professional electrical engineers. Mabuhay ang UPEP,” and wished attendees a meaningful and celebratory evening.#
