The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will feature a suite of science-based technologies designed to bolster the nation’s disaster resilience at the upcoming 2025 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) from November 18 to 21 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Leading the showcase are two key web-based platforms: GeoRiskPH and PlanSmart. Developed by DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), GeoRiskPH is a multi-agency platform that provides real-time data, advanced analytics, and comprehensive hazard maps for floods, landslides, and earthquakes. The tool is designed to empower local government units (LGUs), communities, and policymakers to make informed decisions on disaster preparedness.
Complementing this is the PlanSmart Ready to Rebuild application, developed in partnership with the World Bank. This innovative planning tool aids LGUs in optimizing land use and ensuring infrastructure projects are strategically located using science-based data. DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. stated that PlanSmart can significantly speed up the creation of local Rehabilitation and Recovery Plans, a process that traditionally took months.
The 2025 NSTW, which carries the sub-theme “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities,” is open to the public. It will include forums, interactive exhibits, and other activities showcasing research and development services aimed at providing long-term solutions to community challenges.#
