The City of Marikina continues to champion the excellence and unique brand of its locally crafted shoes, renowned worldwide for their durability, quality, and proud Filipino designs.
Despite the challenge of competing with cheaper imported products, the city’s shoe industry remains resilient, bolstered by support programs implemented by the local government.
According to the Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office (MSIDO), demand for locally made footwear is once again on the rise. This is particularly true for handcrafted leather shoes and custom-made designs, which are favorites among government officials, professionals, and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Several prominent Marikina-based brands continue to export their products to other countries, including Japan, Italy, and the United States. In a significant move to further boost the sector, the city is set to host the “Marikina Shoe Festival 2025” next month. The event will showcase the latest designs from local shoemakers, alongside training sessions and business seminars for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Congresswoman Teodoro underscored the critical importance of the industry to the city’s identity and economy. She emphasized that supporting the sector is synonymous with supporting the families who have honed the craft for generations.
“Marikina shoes are not just products; they are a symbol of the hard work, skill, and heart of every Marikeño family,” Teodoro stated. “We will continue to support programs that will stabilize and fortify the local industry.”
On the private sector front, Noel Evangelista of C Point Marikina Shoes is demonstrating how local brands can thrive by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern market demands. He shared that their strategy involves using high-quality local materials and contemporary designs to appeal to a broader, more global audience.
“C Point is proof that Marikina products can compete with well-known international brands,” Evangelista asserted. “Here, every pair is made with heart, not just by a machine.”
The collaborative efforts between the local government and businesses are setting the stage for substantial growth. A key event on the horizon is the upcoming Marikina Shoe Festival in 2025, which is expected to showcase the latest innovations and creations from the city’s talented shoemakers.
Officials and industry leaders are calling on the public to continue patronizing “Gawang Marikina” (Made in Marikina) products. By choosing local, consumers help sustain the legacy of excellence and quality that first put Marikina on the global footwear map.
Congressman Marcy Teodoro, stated that the festival’s goal is to elevate the city’s shoe industry to new heights and to demonstrate that the “Made in Marikina” label is a symbol of Filipino skill, durability, and identity.
“Marikina shoes are not just products—they are a story of our people’s hard work, perseverance, and talent,” Congressman 1st District of Marikina said.
Alongside these efforts, the local government is encouraging the public to support local products by purchasing Marikina-made shoes. This initiative aims to sustain the workers and entrepreneurs who continue to keep this cherished industry alive.#
