China reaffirms commitment to Asia-Pacific Peace at Manila Forum

The 14th Manila Forum for China-Philippines Relations gathered diplomats, scholars, and business leaders to discuss regional peace and cooperation under the theme “Safeguarding Peace and Security in the Asia-Pacific,” was hosted by the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU).

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Wang Xilian underscored the importance of strengthening mutual trust, promoting win-win cooperation, and advancing reforms in global governance.

Ambassador Wang highlighted China’s initiatives under President Xi Jinping’s vision of a “community with a shared future for humanity.” These include the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), and the recently launched Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which promotes sovereign equality, international law, multilateralism, people-centered development, and concrete action.

“These initiatives offer practical solutions to global challenges and reflect the common aspirations of people worldwide,” Wang said, stressing that cooperation—rather than zero-sum competition—was the only path to peace and shared development.

He also cautioned against attempts to replicate NATO-style bloc confrontations in the Asia-Pacific, calling instead for an inclusive, Asian-driven security framework rooted in dialogue, diversity, and mutual respect.

The ambassador reaffirmed China’s role as a partner in promoting peace, stability, and fairness in the region, adding: “As neighbors sharing a common destiny, China will continue to work hand-in-hand with regional partners for peace and cooperation in Asia.”

The forum concluded with a call for stronger academic and diplomatic exchanges between the Philippines and China to foster deeper understanding and collaboration.#
