In a bid to revolutionize the landscape of organized charity and combat widespread donor fatigue, a new Filipino social enterprise is set to launch KliKA.ph, a mobile application that donors with points, prizes, and cash incentives.
The platform was explained by Chief of Mission Mike Reyes, who presented the app as a digital solution to the critical challenges facing traditional charitable foundations.

Addressing a Systemic Problem in Philanthropy
Mr. Reyes opened his presentation by outlining the core issue KliKA aims to solve: the common problem of charitable funds. He cited a compelling statistic, noting that while 63% of people worldwide donate to charity, the vast majority—75% of that group—give directly to individuals in need, such as beggars on the street.
This practice, while well-intentioned, bypasses organized charities, which he argued are the entities doing the sustained, daily work of helping those in need. These established foundations consequently receive only 25% of all donations. Furthermore, while they compete amongst themselves for these already limited funds they also grapple with “donor and compassion fatigue,” where potential donors not only tire of giving but are also overwhelmed by constant exposure to distressing imagery and endless appeals.
“Even when you want to help, if you help every day, you’ll get tired and you begin to look away.” Reyes stated, pinpointing the psychological barrier the app seeks to overcome.
The KliKA Solution: A “Helping and Earning” Ecosystem
KliKA.ph is designed as a “helping and earning app.” Its mission is to leverage digital technology to “exponentially increase the reach of micro-philanthropy”—the small, everyday donations that Reyes noted make up 75% of the revenue for foundations. This is true even for global giants like Make-A-Wish and Habitat for Humanity.
“The app would make giving viral… rewarding… and fun,” he explained. The model intentionally avoids showcasing what he termed “dire needs” to prevent the “look away” effect. Instead, the user interface highlights the rewards for contributing positive engagement, creating a sustainable cycle for charitable giving.
How It Works: A Simple, Earning Process
The user experience was broken down into a simple loop:
Log In: Users access a dashboard showing their accumulated points, which only increase relative to the actions they perform on the app.
Engage: Users see offers from corporate partners (e.g., “BRAND ‘X‘ Bonus Points Today: 100 points”).
Donate: Clicking the offer reveals verified causes (e.g., PGH Medical Foundation; Sta Teresa of Jornet Home; Hearlife-Verein, et al.). Users donate any amount of money to any of these causes.
Earn: Upon donating, users instantly earn points which can be redeemed for rewards, prizes, and cash.
The act of sharing causes within one’s social network also earns points, creating a viral mechanism for awareness and reach.
The Financial Model: A Transparent Breakdown
A key slide detailed the backend financial distribution for every donation made:
40% to the Beneficiary: The verified charitable cause receives the largest share of the donation.
40% to Platform & Rewards Pool: This portion covers app maintenance and, crucially, funds the pool of rewards that incentivize user participation.
20% to the “Source User”: If a user shares a cause and someone in their network donates because of that share, the source user receives a 10% commission. The remaining 10% from this allocation is used for additional engagement incentives.
Reyes emphasized that beneficiary foundations have agreed to this model, understanding that it effectively replaces the “donation can” we see in groceries and stores and replacing that with a digital “can” in the hands of millions of users exponentially generating far more volume than traditional methods.
“We pride ourselves with a provision in our agreement with beneficiaries that their 40% is but the floor of the share they will get. In accordance with the Platform’s mission to maximize impact for intended causes, upward adjustments shall be made when able.”
Building a Digital Giving Ecosystem
The goal of KliKA is to build a interconnected ecosystem comprising verified beneficiaries, individual donors, corporate merchants (who provide the rewards), and fundraisers. The core team behind KliKA.ph are mostly below 30’s who lead its data management, cybersecurity, and platform development, signaling a focus on the app’s technical supremacy and robustness.
The presentation concluded with a call to action for partners to join the initiative, highlighting early support from entities like Etiqa Philippines and Delos Santos Medical Center.
“We hope you become our partners in this… we really want us to make history together,” Reyes said, framing KliKA.ph not just as another app, but as a movement to redefine charitable giving for the digital age.#
