Teodoro urges Comelec to uphold electoral mandate after landslide win in Marikina

Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro, congressional candidate for Marikina’s 1st District, on Tuesday called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to honor the will of the people and proceed with his immediate proclamation, following his decisive victory in the May 12 elections.

According to Comelec-Marikina, Teodoro secured a commanding lead with 75,062 votes, while his lone opponent, Koko Pimentel, garnered only 29,031.

In a public appeal, Teodoro urged the poll body to resist delaying his proclamation due to technicalities, emphasizing that legal maneuvers should not be allowed to override the clear mandate of the electorate.

“It is with utmost respect that I now appeal to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to uphold this mandate by proceeding with my immediate proclamation as duly elected Representative of the 1st District of Marikina City. Technicalities must never be allowed to override the sovereign will of the people,” he said.

Quoting the Latin phrase “Vox populi, vox Dei”—the voice of the people is the voice of God—Teodoro underscored that his win was a collective triumph of the people rather than a personal feat.

“I do not view this as a personal victory, but as a powerful expression of our people’s collective will—an expression that must be respected, not obstructed,” he said.

Teodoro warned that questioning the outcome could disenfranchise thousands of voters who participated in the democratic process.

“To hold otherwise would disenfranchise the thousands who stood in long lines to cast their votes. The people have spoken—and their voice, in a democracy, is sacred,” he added.

The former Marikina mayor also maintained that there is no legal ground for disqualifying him, stating that his long-standing public service and strong ties to the community should not be undermined by “questionable claims.”

“So I stand before you today, not asking for special treatment—but for what is right,” Teodoro asserted. “The voters of the 1st District have spoken, and their decision deserves to be proclaimed.”

“The authority to govern flows not from accusations—but from the electorate,” he concluded.

The Comelec has yet to release an official statement on the matter.#
