CHED vows to boost education and IT industry partnership to advance IT education in PH

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Secretary Popoy De Vera commits to strengthen the Information Technology (IT) industry and academe partnership to ensure that the Philippine Information Technology (IT) education system aligns with the industry needs.

During the launching of CHEDX 2.0 today at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City, De Vera emphasized the critical need for collaboration between higher education institutions (HEIs), industry leaders, and other stakeholders in shaping the future of IT education.

“It is our commitment to ensure that graduates of our universities are industry-ready by aligning curriculum with industry demands. Hence, we launched CHEDX to bring together the IT-BPM sector and academe to strengthen the reevaluation of IT education to ensure that we produce graduates based on the current industry needs,” De Vera said.

CHEDX, an annual event that started last year, aims to encourage curriculum alignment, nurture industry-ready graduates, and forge partnerships between industry and HEIs to help decrease the skills gap.

“We must expand our vision through strong partnerships between education and the IT industry, exceed expectations by redefining excellence in education, exemplify leadership by promoting sustainability, gender equality, and accessibility for all,” De Vera added.

CHED Secretary De Vera was joined by the CHED Commissioner Shirley Agrupis, CHED Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) Board of Trustee Member Jonathan de Luzuriaga, University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) President Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr., Asia Pacific College (APC) President Teresita Medado, and other industry experts to launch CHEDX 2.0.

The Summit was organized by the CHED Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) in collaboration with the IBPAP, USeP, and CHED Regional Office 1.

CHEDX 2.0, a two day summit, features a distinguished lineup of experts and thought leaders from the IT industry and higher education sector that will share insights and experiences as guides through the intricacies of this technological revolution.

The summit attracted around 400 participants, including 50 exhibitors from both the education and industry sectors around the Philippines

Attendees had the opportunity to explore a diverse array of cutting-edge exhibits and engage in discussions highlighting innovative solutions from academic institutions and industry partners.

The summit was held on December 4-5, 2024 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.#
