17 ahensya ng gobyerno suportado ang FARM

Nakiisa ang Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) sa Eastern Visayas sa iba pang institusyon ng gobyerno noong Pebrero 21 ngayong taon sa pagpapahayag ng suporta sa Farmers Assistance for Recovery and Modernization (FARM) Project, na pangunahing naglalayong tugunan ang presyo ng bigas.

Ang mga kinatawan mula sa 17 institusyon ng gobyerno at apat na alkalde ng Leyte ay lumagda sa Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) bilang suporta sa Farmers Assistance for Recovery and Modernization (FARM) Project.

Bilang kilos ng suporta, si DAR Regional Director Robert Anthony Yu kasama ang mga kinatawan mula sa Department of Agriculture (DA), National Food Authority (NFA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Technical Education and Skill Development Authority (TESDA) , Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Health (DOH), National Irrigation Authority (NIA), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Visayas State University (VSU), Philippine Rice Research Nilagdaan ng Institute (PhilRice), Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech), BPI, Tingog Partylist at Office of the House Speaker, ang Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) noong Miyerkules ng hapon sa NEDA Regional Office sa Palo, Leyte.

Ang iba pang lumagda sa MOU ay ang mga Mayor mula sa Munisipyo ng Palo, Sta. Fe, Alangalang at San Miguel, pawang nasa probinsya ng Leyte, kung saan ipi-pilot test ang proyekto.

Ipinaliwanag ni Sofonias Gabonada Jr., Deputy Secretary General ng Office of the House Speaker, na ang FARM Project ay isang inisyatiba ng opisina ni Speaker Martin Romualdez na idinisenyo upang mapababa ang presyo ng bigas sa pamamagitan ng paggamit at pag-maximize ng mga umiiral na interbensyon ng gobyerno na magagamit ng mga magsasaka. Dagdag pa niya, ito ay bilang tugon sa panawagan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na tukuyin ang mga malikhaing solusyon at mekanismo para sa mas matatag na industriya ng bigas.

Samantala, sinabi ni Meylene Rosales, NEDA-8 Regional Director, “Ito ay isang dahilan para magdiwang dahil ito (proyekto) ay magsisilbing silver lining,” dahil naniniwala siyang ang FARM Project ay isang paraan upang mapaunlad ang sektor ng agrikultura.#
