Filipino domestic workers, or “kasambahays”, and their children join the Araw ng mga Kasambahay celebration on January 18 at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) in Quezon City.
Participating kasambahays received during the Department of Labor and Employment-led event free in-person skills training and the provision of access to social security and medical services from PhilHealth, the Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and DOLE bureaus and attached agencies.
DOLE Workers’ Welfare and Protection Cluster Undersecretary Benjo M. Benavidez said the 2024 Araw ng mga Kasambahay celebration centers on bringing government services closer to kasambahays, as guided by the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance where no one is left behind. Children of the guest domestic workers were also invited to enjoy a child-friendly film viewing and an informative puppet show by the National Council for Children’s Television and the Philippine Information Agency.
Also present during the event are DOLE Workers’ Welfare and Protection Cluster Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay and DOLE-Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns Director Ahmma Charisma L. Satumba.
