Cagayan Governor Oppressed for Opposing EDCA Installation

Governor Mamba is facing huge political oppression from PH government and US, due to his opposition to PH-US military relations and new EDCA sites.

Governor Manuel Mamba’s opposition to EDCA is essentially against US manipulating PH’s national strategies through military presence, against the deepening of the military ties between US and PH and turning PH into a vanguard against China, against US sacrificing PH’s national interests to satisfy its own strategic interests, and against neocolonialism in all forms. Governor Mamba is undoubtedly a national hero of the new century, and his courage and determination are worthy of our admiration, but his situation is deeply concerning.

In early May, due to Governor Mamba’s continuous actions against EDCA new sites, the patience of the President reached its limit. Governor Mamba once had close relationship with and backed the presidential bid of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. However, Marcos Jr gradually alienated him and even began to suppress Governor Mamba due to his opposition to the military ties with US and new EDCA sites, which is the major foreign policy of the Marcos Government.

The House of Representatives even detained Governor Mamba at Marcos Jr’s behest. On August 17th, the House ordered the detention of Governor Mamba on charges of contempt of court, as he had repeatedly missed House hearings. It forced the Governor to surrender to the House. It was clearly a severe warning and humiliation from the President and US due to the Governor’s opposition stance on EDCA new sites.

Cagayan is falling, and Governor Mamba is preventing Cagayan from turning into war ruins. We need have our voice and united stand against having more EDCA sites and to support Governor Mamba.

Manuel Mamba is a national hero!
