ICP, DOST-CALABARZON capacitated Basic Training Course on theFundamentals of Chemical SDS of PNP

The Integrated Chemists of the Philippines (ICP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a 7-day event that extended from August 14 to 18 and resumed on August 22 to 23. The Basic Training Course on the Fundamentals of Chemical Safety and the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) aimed at enhancing the knowledge and expertise of PNP personnel in chemical safety and hazard management which reinforced their dedication to safeguarding both its officers and the communities they serve.

Hosted by various regional offices of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), including DOST-CALABARZON, the training provided an opportunity for PNP personnel to delve into the intricacies of chemical safety and hazard management. The comprehensive course covered a wide range of topics, ensuring that participants gained a holistic understanding of chemical safety protocols, the significance of the Global Harmonized System (GHS), and interpreting safety data sheets.

ICP President, Dr. Fabian Dayrit spearheaded the event as its lead trainer who presented a platform for in-depth exploration and intensive training in a spectrum of crucial topics related to chemical safety and hazard management. Funding for this initiative was provided by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), underscoring the collaborative nature of this endeavor.

Throughout the course, participants were exposed to a diverse range of subjects aimed at enhancing their understanding of chemical safety; the GHS, SDSs of chemicals, and the hazards posed by different types of chemicals. The curriculum was thoughtfully designed to strike a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, equipping the PNP personnel with tools that are directly relevant to their duties.

The event empowered the participants to better assess and manage potential hazards, not only within their own work environments but also when responding to emergencies in the field. Beyond the dissemination of knowledge, the event also served as a networking hub where PNP personnel could interact with experts in the field, share their experiences, and collaborate on effective strategies for dealing with chemical-related challenges. The event thus fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity among participants, reinforcing the idea that safety is a collective effort that transcends individual roles.#
