Agriculture-based associations in Batangas province were capacitated on mango and calamansi processing in a technology training conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas, in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) – Batangas, held at OPA Training Hall, Diversion Road, Batangas City, May 11.
Agriculture-based associations such as Women’s Rural Improvement Club (RIC), Batangas Mango Growers Association, and 4H Club – Batangas participated in the technology training which aimed to provide them value addition technologies of mango and calamansi.
Ready-to-drink mango and calamansi juice were the processing technologies trained to the participants. A discussion on mango and calamansi, including their varieties and product applications, was conducted prior to the technology demonstration. Actual processing followed after the discussion, and participants were asked to do the process themselves. As part of their request, an introduction on cassava-based products processing was also provided to the participants. To ensure participants’ compliance with food safety requirements, an awareness seminar on Basic Food Hygiene was integrated in the technology training.
Mr. Romel M. Felismino, University Researchers at the Institute of Food Science and Technology, University of the Philippines Los Baños, facilitated these activities.
Batangas Provincial Agriculturist, Dr. Rodrigo M. Bautista Jr., expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of the participants and the technology support provided by DOST. “Maraming salamat po sa DOST sa patuloy ninyong pagtulong at pagsuporta sa sektor ng agrikultura. Asahan n’yo po ang patuloy nating pagtulungan upang maitaguyod ang kabuhayan ng ating mga kababayan,” he mentioned.#
