Under the Customer-Focused DARIUS (Data Analytics-Ready Info Unified System for Agile Delivery of S&T Services) II Project, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-CALABARZON conducted a Microsoft Power BI training to 15 DOST Regional Offices (RO) last February 27 via Zoom.
Engr. Francisco R. Barquilla III, Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for Technical Operations and DARIUS II Project Leader, opened the program by welcoming the participants. Engr. Barquilla then gave updates on the progress of the project and asked for support from the present DOST ROs from the upcoming launching of the Customer Portal System and for future activities.
DARIUS II is a project that started after the completion of DARIUS I which focused on creating the Information and Management of Projects, Services and S&T Interventions (IMPRESSION) and implementing a common project information platform for the DOST Regional Offices.
Mr. Kenneth Oliver Y. Tindugan, data analyst of DARIUS II, served as the training resource speaker. He introduced the participants to PowerBI application software which is subscribed to and provided to the DOST Regional Offices. Mr. Tindugan discussed how it can be used to transform datasets and create data visualizations and interactive dashboards. To make learning more interesting and participative, sample datasets were supplied to participants for them to manipulate and familiarize themselves with the features of PowerBI.
While navigating the software, the resource person showed various graphical outputs that the software can generate – from a simple bar graph to a filled map. PowerBI also has a slicer tool that enables the filtering of datasets for narrowed data visualizations and a smart narrative feature that creates a quick text summary of the graph.
A Q&A portion was then conducted to address questions from participants.#
