The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – CALABARZON invited the Institute of Food Science and Technology – University of the Philippines Los Baños (IFST-UPLB) thru the UPLB Foundation Inc. to conduct a Training on Vacuum Frying Technology last March 2 to 3. Staffs and officers of the Sentrong Pamilihan ng Produktong Agrikultura sa Quezon Foundation, Inc. (SPPAQFI), as well as Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) and DOST-CALABARZON, participated in the two-day training.
The training was in relation to the “Leveling-Up of Quezon’s Bagsakan Agri-Processing Capability Through Adoption of the Smart Food Value Chain Framework” project which aims to be able to produce frozen squash puree to supply the E-Nutribun adopters in the CALABARZON region. The project is in its second year of implementation.
Mr. Romel M. Felismino of IFST-UPLB served as the resource speaker for the training. The training conducted includes pre-treatment procedures and actual process and techniques on vacuum frying. Some of the produce that was processed during the activity were potatoes, okra, and langka.
Furthermore, a training on squash puree processing from the IFST-UPLB will be conducted on March 6, 2023 at the Food Innovation Center of the UPLB in Laguna.
The training on Vacuum Frying Technology aims to further enhance the development and production capability of various vacuum fried products of the SPPAQFI.#
