DOST-CALABARZON, DOST Cavite holds TechOps Seminar

DOST-CALABARZON through DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office in Cavite (DOST-Cavite) conducted a Technology Opportunity Seminar (TechOps) on Possible Adoption of DOST-FNRI “Tubig Talino” Technology, on 03 February 2023 at DOST PSTO- Cavite, Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The participants were graced by Provincial S&T Director, Ms. Gilda S. De Jesus. In her welcome remarks, Ms. De Jesus recognized the participants’ enthusiasm to learn about the featured technologies of DOST-FNRI and remains hopeful about seeing another set of Tubig Talino technology adaptors in Cavite province. Also, she acknowledges the support of City Health Office of Trece Martires City led by Dr. Lorelie Escario in the dissemination of invitation letter to the water refilling stations in the city.

A total of 18- participants from different water refilling stations (WRS) of Trece Martires City, Cavite attended the productive seminar. The seminar featured the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) – Iodine Rich Drinking Water also known as “Tubig Talino”. It was developed to control and prevent Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) among Filipinos. This is one of DOST-FNRI initiatives to provide communities a safer, cheaper, and quality iodine-rich drinking water.

Ms. Verjo Angelie Maristela-Sisante, Science Research Specialist II of DOST Cavite, spearheaded the discussion of the said technology. In her discussion, Ms. Sisante shared that just like ordinary water, Tubig Talino has no adverse taste and has a stable shelf life of 6 months and 2 weeks. As she steers the discussion, she mentioned that studies show that sufficient consumption of iodine from water helps the absorption of essential micronutrients which speed up brain development among children and prevent iodine deficiency orders in adults.

The technology is now being offered to MSMEs most especially those involved in water refilling station businesses as a value addition to their existing business at a very low cost. Meanwhile, questions and concerns of the participants were addressed during the Open forum.

DOST Cavite is encouraging the water refilling station owners to take advantage of this technology by adopting this Iodine premix technology.

At DOST, we continuously provide S&T interventions to uplift the community. We will ensure the adoption of technologies and application of S&T intervention towards maximum economic and social benefits for the people.#
