DepEd IV-A recognizes DOST-CALABARZON in public service delivery for its young learners in the region

DOST-CALABARZON received a Plaque of Recognition from the Department of Education (DepEd) IV-A in its efforts to deliver S&T even closer to the children in CALABARZON, during the 2022 Education Summit and Stakeholders Appreciation at the Tagaytay Country Hotel, Tagaytay, Cavite last January 10, 2023.

To improve access to S&T education, DOST-CALABARZON’s programs continue to reach out to our young learners in the most isolated and disadvantaged areas. Such include the conduct of school-based feeding programs through the distribution of the DOST-FNRI’s Enhanced Nutribun and Rice Mongo Crunchies in the provinces.

Moreover, together with the Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology and DepEd Division of Quezon, DOST-CALABARZON is establishing its Mini Science Centrum for the Selected Island Municipalities in Quezon. This project will serve as science learning centers which will house various interactive science exhibits for the learners in the island communities. It also aims to enhance science education and encourage creativity among students, and to provide training programs for science teachers.

In relation to this, a teacher’s training titled, “Teaching Science Beyond Classroom through Philippine Science Centrum Video-based Exhibits and Lab-in-a-Box” was conducted at the Quezon Science National High School last December 17, 2022 for 57 science teachers from the 12 districts of Alabat, Pollilo, and Quezon. The training featured 15 hands-on activities on Physics and Chemistry, with learning materials such as a set of Philippine Science Centrum exhibit videos, teacher’s guide, and exhibit manuals aligned with DepEd’s Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) Curriculum. Moreover, the training featured Prof. Corazon Salumbides, a Balik Scientist Awardee and retired Junior High School Science teacher in the US.

Earlier in the same month, the DepEd Division of Quezon also recognized DOST-CALABARZON for its support in its Adopt-a-School Program. The recognition was given last December 7, 2022 at the Sevilla’s Farm Resort in Lucena, Quezon.#
