Manila Water sewage treatment facility in Antipolo to serve over 160,000 residents

The sewage treatment facility will also aid the rehabilitationCurrently, 30% of the Hinulugang Taktak sewage treatment facility is finished. The project, which is expected to be completed by December 2025. 

As part of its commitment to provide better sewerage and sanitation services for its increasing customers in the East Zone of Metro Manila, Manila Water is constructing the P2.5-billion Hinulugang Taktak Sewerage System Project, which includes a 16-million-liter-per-day sewage treatment plant (STP) and four-kilometer combined sewer network, in Antipolo City.

To date, 30% of the Hinulugang Taktak STP is finished, with work on a pumping station, a force main network, and a gravity network already underway. The construction is expected to be completed by December 2025.

The sewage treatment facility will also aid the rehabilitation of Antipolo City’s Hinulugang Taktak Falls.

The construction of the STP is the result of a usufruct agreement between Manila Water and Antipolo City’s local government unit (LGU) in 2020. The agreement covers the use of the 8,646-square-meter property of the Antipolo LGU along Taktak Road in Barangay Santa Cruz, as the build site. To minimize tree-cutting and ground levelling, the project site was relocated adjacent to the initial lot and will occupy a total land area of 4,200 square meters.

According to Manila Water Wastewater Supply Headline Project Manager Joyce General, the massive improvement of the sewerage system will also help rehabilitate the Hinulugang Taktak Falls, one of the city’s popular tourist destinations.
